One of the most salient high-involvement purchase categories is the automobile industry, with a high level of financial investment, long durability, emotional involvement and social conspicuity. Under these circumstances, conventional marketing techniques with the emphasis on product characteristics, prices, and promotional messages cannot be usually adequate to shape consumer decision-making. Experiential marketing, where the brand experience is based on high engagement levels, interactivity, and emotional involvement of customers, has been developed as a strategic tool to impact high-involvement purchases.
This paper explores how experiential marketing helps in influencing consumer behavior in high-involvement car buying. The paper examines the role of experiential tools like test drives, auto expos, online showrooms, augmented reality (AR) experiences, and lifestyle branding in terms of their impact on emotional attachment, reduction of perceived risk, brand confidence, and purchase intention based on secondary research, scholarly articles, and industry reports. To demonstrate the practical use, case insights of companies like Tata Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, Inc., and Hyundai Motor Company are used.
The results indicate that experiential marketing has a significant positive impact on consumer engagement, uncertainty, emotional attachment, and positively affect purchase decisions in the automobile industry. The paper ends up with managerial implications and future research directions that are applicable to car dealers as well as managerial students of MBA level of strategic analysis.
